Use of weighted blankets for agitation in hospitalized individuals with dementia: A pilot randomized study
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Behavioral and psychologic symptoms of dementia – including agitation, aggression, insomnia and anxiety - affect 40–85% of persons living with dementia and lead to higher healthcare utilization and caregiver burden, as well as increased mortality and use of antipsychotics [1–3]. Given significant risks of antipsychotics and benzodiazepines, nonpharmacologic interventions are preferred by both clinicians and caregivers whenever possible [4].
