Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has been a major driver of industrial development in India. Maharashtra, home to Pune and other automotive clusters, has attracted a large share of FDI and hosts major OEMs and component firms. This paper examines the social impacts of FDI in the automobile sector in Maharashtra — focusing on employment, skill formation, urbanization and social infrastructure, income distribution, gender effects, and environmental/social displacement. The study uses official FDI statistics, industry reports, and cluster studies and complements them with original tables and charts created for this paper.
