LVAD specific infection with Coxiella burnetii treated with heart transplantation and antibiotic suppression

Abstract: We report a rare case of LVAD infection caused by Coxiella burnetii in a 43-year-old male. The infection was diagnosed after CT-guided abscess sampling, FISHseq analysis, and serology. Conservative therapy with doxycycline and hydroxychloroquine proved unsuccessful. After LVAD removal and heart transplantation, the patient has remained infection-free for three years under antibiotic suppression.
