Data Driven discovery of A Stable Transdiagnostic Axis of Reward and Affective Regulatory Instability in Neuropsychopathology
Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Abstract: Psychiatric disorders are traditionally defined using categorical diagnoses, despite growing evidence that symptoms span continuous and overlapping dimensions. However, the mechanistic interpretation of transdiagnostic dimensions remains unclear. Emerging computational frameworks suggest that global psychopathology may reflect instability in hierarchical systems that regulate reward sensitivity, affective salience, and adaptive behavior rather than simple accumulation of symptoms.
