Type: article
Abstract: Biological materials are currently a popular choice for producing nanoparticles in the fields of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Using plants to synthesize Magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgONPs) offers an eco-friendly and nontoxic biogenic method. It has the potential as an antimicrobial agent in wound healing due to its unique surface properties and structure. Henceforth, the MgONP is being investigated for its potential to enhance wound healing. This study aimed to synthesize MgONPs from Citrus reticulata (C. reticulata) peel extract and to evaluate its antimicrobial potential against wound pathogens and their other biomedical applications. The MgONPs were produced using a green synthesis technique involving C. reticulata peel extract. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized, and additionally, the anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and toxicity activities of the MgONPs were assessed. The color transition of the extract solution and peak formation in UV-visible spectroscopic analysis indicated the production of nanoparticles. MgONPs demonstrated higher efficacy against Staphylococcus aureus, among other bacterial strains. Additionally, it exhibited positive outcomes in anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and cytotoxic screening analysis. The current study’s results demonstrate that C. reticulata peel-mediated MgONPs showed effectiveness against wound pathogens and less toxicity in cytotoxic screening analysis in higher concentration (80[Formula: see text] [Formula: see text]g/mL) in 80% of live nauplii, and in the embryonic toxicology shown no abnormality and malformations.
