Fall prevention in older patients with cancer: A call for action on behalf of the European Geriatric Medicine Society Special Interest Group on Gero-Oncology
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Falls among older adults with cancer are common and may have a substantial impact on treatment completion and survival. Systematic screening at clinical encounters may identify high-risk patients early and prevent falls by triggering referral to evidence-based multifactorial interventions, including but not limited to medication review, environmental modifications, sufficient nutrition, and combined balance and strength training. Integration of falls awareness into routine oncology workflows is vital to preserve independence, maintain treatment continuity, and improve outcomes for this population.
