Abstract: Social support plays a crucial role in maintaining mental health and overall well-being. This research paper examines the intersection of friendship, ethical considerations, and mental health outcomes through a comprehensive review of empirical literature and original data analysis. Using both qualitative and quantitative approaches, we investigated how various dimensions of social support—emotional, instrumental, informational, and appraisal support—contribute to psychological well-being. Our findings indicate that quality friendships significantly reduce depression and anxiety symptoms while enhancing life satisfaction. The ethical implications of friendship as a mental health intervention are discussed, particularly regarding reciprocity, boundaries, and professional versus personal support systems. This paper contributes to the growing body of literature on social determinants of mental health and provides practical recommendations for healthcare providers, policymakers, and individuals seeking to improve their mental well-being through enhanced social connections.
