Abstract: This study aims to analyze and discuss the potential of teaching and learning about identities in Physical Education at school with and through art at school through the presentation of different teaching proposals – (i) Diversity Book and Self-Portraits; (ii) Theater with Abayomis Dolls; and (iii) Slam, spoken poetry and combating prejudice. It is an experience report of two research projects in different state schools in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul – Abya Yala and Laroyê –, both with the intention of placing identities at the center of the educational process of the Physical Education curriculum component at school. In Physical Education classes focused on identities, art was produced in various ways: painting, drawing, theater, dance, music, literature, among others. All of these manifestations, in addition to challenging hegemonic school practices, broaden the cultural repertoire of students and create bridges between traditional, popular and academic knowledge; promoting learning that contributes to the construction of subjects who are more aware of themselves and the world.
