Comparative Evaluation of Bond Strength of Bioflx Crowns with Resinous and Nonresinous Luting Agents on Primary Teeth: An In Vitro Study
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: To overcome the disadvantages of esthetic crowns, a new, durable, self-adaptable, and esthetic preformed pediatric crown, Bioflx, was introduced.Bioflx crowns claim to offer the durability of stainless-steel crowns and the visual appeal of zirconia crowns.Another major advantage of the Bioflx crowns is that they are free of bisphenol A-glycidyl methacrylate.Furthermore, its fluoridereleasing properties and bonding in a moist environment make it a popular material of choice among dentists. While Bioflx has been used in pediatric dentistry for a while, only a few studies exist IntroductIonPrimary teeth are of significant importance in children as they aid in mastication, speech, and esthetics, and eventually act as a niche for the development of permanent teeth. In India, dental caries is prevalent in about 54% of the population. 1 Occlusal discrepancies, crowding, alterations to the timing of permanent tooth eruption, a lack of arch size tooth material, and poor phonetic and masticatory abilities can all result from the early loss of primary teeth. Therefore, it is crucial for pediatric dentists to conserve primary teeth with crowns.Teeth that are compromised owing to dental caries, treated teeth, and malformed teeth require crowns for their maintenance. For many years, stainless steel crowns have been used for restoring primary teeth that have experienced significant hard tissue loss. 2 Stainless steel crowns have their own set of advantages that include durability, marginal adaptability, economic efficiency, and reduced technique sensitivity. However, stainless steel crowns have a metallic appearance and do not meet the esthetic demands of parents and children. Therefore, tooth-colored crowns have been introduced in pediatric dentistry.Preveneered stainless-steel crowns, polycarbonate crowns, strip crowns, and zirconia crowns are among the few esthetic primary tooth prostheses.3 The lack of esthetics, early wear of polycarbonate and preveneer crowns, and the extensive and painful tooth preparation procedure for zirconia crowns limit their utility in practice.
