Abstract: This study focused on attitudes toward the effects of media multitasking during academic activities and included two surveys of university students. In Survey 1, the participants were asked to describe what they thought were the effects of media multitasking during academic activities.Quantitative text analysis identified nine perspectives each on positive and negative attitudes. In Survey 2, we developed an attitude scale based on these perspectives and investigated its relationship to the actual frequency of media multitasking. The results confirmed that the relationship between the attitude scale and media multitasking varied depending on the learning condition in which media multitasking was performed and the purpose of media use.
