Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Cancer is a complex disease with intricate relationships between genetic, metabolic, and epigenetic variables. As a comprehensive method, systems biology offers a strong foundation for combining different levels of complexity to identify the dynamic processes underlying the development and spread of tumors.Systems biology has become a groundbreaking technique for comprehending the metabolic landscapes and signaling pathways of cancer by fusing the analytical power of multiomics technologies with the prediction potential of AI. 2 These advancements are expanding our knowledge of the biology of cancer and paving the way for novel treatment strategies.Modern systems biology relies heavily on multiomics technologies, such as transcriptomics, proteomics, epigenomics, metabolomics, and genomics, which provide a variety of insights into cancer.Single nucleotide variants (SNVs), multiple nucleotide variants (MNVs), and small insertions/deletions (indels) can be identified using specialized genomic databases such as the Oncomine Comprehensive Assay v3 (OCAv3).Establishing a database of deidentified clinical and genomic "But biology and computer science -life and computation -are related.I am confident that at their interface great discoveries await those who seek them."-Leonard Adleman aRtificial intelligence a n D Machine leaRning i n canceR biologyCancer continues to be the main cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, challenging modern medicine.Despite significant progress, its intrinsic complexity and diversity stretch the limits of present knowledge.Cancer research has seen a radical change in the last few decades due to groundbreaking developments in systems biology, bioinformatics, and more recently, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). 1 These technologies provide a special capacity to decipher tumor biology, improve treatments, and enhance results by understanding the interaction of genetic, molecular biology, and cellular systems. To bridge the gap between experimental data and useful insights, bioinformatics in particular has become a foundation for analyzing and integrating large datasets produced by high-throughput technology.Beyond diagnostics, AI and ML are rapidly changing how we find possible drug targets, improve treatment plans, and assess patient outcomes.By simulating how tumors react to treatments, investigating new drug combinations, and anticipating resistance pathways, these tools quicken the pace of discovery.A significant change in cancer care is driven by the convergence of biological research and computer innovation. This convergence elevates precision oncology by supporting adaptive patient-centered solutions rather than one-size-fits-all approaches. As these interdisciplinary efforts advance, they not only enhance our capacity to treat cancer but also reinterpret the disease, opening the door to more individualized, prognostic, and preventative approaches.
