Advanced aggregated modular multilevel converter topology for energy conversion in large-scale PV-integrated power grids
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: The utilization of the aggregated modular multilevel converters (AMMCs) is gaining importance for the transmission of large photovoltaic (PV) integrated grid systems. This article proposes an innovative approach to constructing modular circuits and integrates the PV system with the grid using 36 power modules based MMC. The suggested design mitigates the problems with previous PV-MMC circuits where the power flow between the branches of the converter arms was uneven. This lets the converter only see the differences in power flow between the phases. This makes the regulation process easier and enables the AMMC to balance a wide range of systems. The fractional order proportional integral control (FOPI) method is based on multiverse optimization (MVO). Adding the circulating DC and taking out the component AC fixes the power imbalance between the AMMC phases. This method cuts down on internal losses, makes the converter more stable, and keeps the powers of the AMMC phases and arms in check.
