Roof Mounted Hemispherical Dome

Abstract: The Roof-Mounted Hemispherical Dome Omnidirectional Air Intake System (HODAIS) is a novel automotive intake concept that positions three polished dome-shaped air collectors on the vehicle roof, above the turbulent aerodynamic boundary layer that plagues conventional hood and bumper intakes. Each dome is wrapped in a 360-degree stainless steel mesh grille, allowing it to harvest clean, high-pressure ambient air from any horizontal direction simultaneously — regardless of wind angle or vehicle yaw. The convex hemispherical geometry passively sheds rainwater outward by curvature alone, eliminating the need for mechanical covers or foam barriers. Inspired by marine deck ventilators used on ships and sailboats for over a century, the design adapts a proven omnidirectional airflow principle to a performance automotive application for the first time.
