Cosmic ray–driven electron-induced reaction theory does not quantify spatiotemporal variations in lower-stratospheric ozone and temperature
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: The article by Lu (1) claims to quantitatively reproduce thespatiotemporal variations in lower-stratospheric ozone andtemperature by a cosmic ray-driven electron-induced (CRE)reaction theory. This follows Lu’s previous publications onCRE (2, 3) and an erroneous “tropical ozone hole” that havebeen widely rebutted (4–8). Lu (1) asserts that the CRE modelalone explains the atmospheric degradation of ozone-depleting substances (ODSs) and multidecadal trends ofanthropogenic ozone depletion at all latitudes
