Inducible POU Class 2 Homeobox 3 Expression in Human Intestinal Organoids as a Model of Human Tuft Cells
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Tuft cells, name for their tufts of apical microvilli, are relatively drare chemosensory cells found in the epithelium of several organs, dincluding lungs, stomach, intestine, and pancreatic duct. They express genes canonically associated with taste signaling such as CHAT, TRPM5, and POU Class 2 Homeobox 3 (POU2F3).1 POU2F3 plays a role in cell fate specification of tuft cells and is essential for tuft cell differentiation.2 Characterization of human tuft cells has remained difficult due to their rarity in vivo and the lack of in vitro models.
