Ionic Liquids: The Smart Solvents for Energy Sector

Abstract: The ionic liquids have been acknowledged as an alternative green solvent in many chemical reactions that can be designed smartly according to the desired reaction requirements. There are a number of benefits that can outperform the conventional solvents, such as design and customization, time-saving, cost-effective, non-hazardous, efficient, etc. For this reason, they can be classed as “smart solvent” and due to causing minimum environmental pollution, they are “green solvents”. The current world can get benefit from using ILs for the purpose of developing energy materials to fulfil the energy crisis through multidisciplinary applications. The current chapter describes how ILs have been employed to build up an efficient nano-catalyst system working as an energy material for a hydrogen fuel source.
