Enhancing social prescribing through controlled-crowdsourcing: participatory action research of a community asset-mapping platform in Singapore

Type: article
Abstract: Aim This paper aims to evaluate the development and implementation of the Living Asset Map Project (LAMP) Phase I pilot, which was designed to strengthen social prescribing (SP) effectiveness through enhanced community asset mapping. Introduction SP is often limited by poor visibility of community resources, constraining effective referrals. We evaluated the feasibility of a controlled crowdsourcing platform, the LAMP to enhance community asset mapping. Methods Using a participatory action research approach, SP practitioners contributed to platform development and testing through interviews, field validation, and community walks. Qualitative data were thematically analysed. Results Four interrelated findings emerged: (A) adoption drivers including convenience and comprehensiveness; (B) potential applications for identifying collaborators and overcoming geographical knowledge gaps; (C) best practices for data management including clear categorisation and quality assurance mechanisms; and (D) sustainability challenges requiring organisational incentives and community engagement strategies. Conclusion LAMP is a feasible, practitioner-led approach to improving asset visibility in SP. Its sustained impact depends on aligning data governance with organisational incentives to support long-term use and integration into practice. These findings provide implications for health systems seeking scalable, SP-driven approaches to improving social determinants of health.
