A Complete Photonic-Ternary Computing Stack: From SWCNT@MWCNT Device to Compiled Operating System (THATTEOS)

Type: preprint
Abstract: I present a complete balanced ternary computing stack spanning six layers—from a simulation-confirmed photonic carbon nanotube device through a compiled operating system. The foundational element is a metallic (8,8) armchair single-wall carbon nanotube (SWCNT) coaxially enclosed within a (13,13) multi-wall carbon nanotube (MWCNT). Non-equilibrium Green's function (NEGF) quantum transport simulation confirms three cleanly separated current states: +74 μA, 0 μA, and −74 μA at 0.5 V bias, encoding balanced ternary trit values {+1, 0, −1} with a signal-to-noise ratio exceeding 2000 (54 dB). Atop this device, I describe a passive current-summing gate library, a photon-clocked processor with a balanced ternary instruction set (T3ISA), a ferroelectric memory hierarchy with a hardware trit-trie search circuit, ternary cryptographic primitives, and a purpose-built programming language (ManiT) with a dual-target compiler and microkernel operating system (THATTEOS)—all implemented and verified. Six patent applications covering the full stack have been filed with the Indian Patent Office. Version 3. Corrects the device transport figures and withdraws the version 2 statement that the quantum-transport results are independent of the optical transition wavelength. The current at 0.5 V is corrected from ±74 µA to ±50.887 µA, the signal-to-noise ratio from ">2000 (54 dB)" to 1453.9 (63.25 dB), and the outer-tube suppression of inner-tube transmission from 27% to 44.1%. The optical transition assignment given in version 2 is withdrawn as unverified and deliberately not replaced. The balanced-ternary encoding, the three-state operating principle and the stack architecture are unchanged. Version 4. Withdraws the version 3 device transport figures. The calculation that produced them has been retired from the author's citable record together with the body of work it belonged to, and a recomputation from first principles is under way; the figures are therefore withdrawn rather than restated. Withdrawn: the current at 0.5 V (±50.887 µA), the signal-to-noise ratios at 1 GHz and at 1 THz, the transmission pair at the Fermi energy, the outer-tube suppression figure, the operating-point contrast, and the dark-branch current. No replacement values are offered, deliberately: substituting a provisional number for a withdrawn one would repeat the error these errata exist to correct. The optical transition assignment remains withdrawn from version 3. Four structural findings are restated without their figures and are not withdrawn: the dark branch conducts, so the zero state arises from withholding the alternating drive and never from the absence of optical coupling alone; the alternating-drive symmetry is not exact; the contrast at the operating bias is materially weaker than at the Fermi energy; and the signal-to-noise ratio in versions 1 and 2 was quoted at a bandwidth three orders of magnitude below the operating rate those versions describe. The balanced-ternary encoding, the three-state operating principle, the stack architecture and the compiler and operating-system results are unchanged.
