Interpreting global terrestrial gross primary production dynamics through a Seasonal–Fluctuation–Peak framework
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Terrestrial gross primary production (GPP) is the largest and one of the most uncertain fluxes in the global carbon cycle. A major source of this uncertainty is the incomplete representation of biophysical controls on GPP and limited understanding of their roles. In this study, we developed an interpretable Seasonal–Fluctuation–Peak (SFP) framework that estimates and interpret GPP from flux-tower site to globe scales. This approach combines a phenological baseline, a climate-driven disturbance correction, and a physiological constraint based on annual maximum GPP (GPPmax). The 1 km global 16‑day GPP product data is too large to upload; please contact us if needed.
