INVESTIGATION OF THE Tb–Bi–Te SYSTEM AND ALLOYING OF ITS COMPOUNDS

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: This work presents an extensive theoretical and experimental analysis of the ternary Tb–Bi–Te system, which is of significant interest in the development of modern thermoelectric materials. The main focus is on the study of phase equilibria, patterns of solid solution and intermetallic compound formation, as well as the effect of doping with the rare-earth element terbium (Tb) on the structural and electrophysical properties of the alloys. A comparative analysis with well-known Bi–Te-based systems was carried out, allowing the identification of specific behaviors of Tb within the crystal lattice. It was demonstrated that the introduction of Tb reduces thermal conductivity due to enhanced phonon scattering and increases the Seebeck coefficient, which together lead to an improvement in the thermoelectric figure of merit. Optimal doping concentration ranges were determined to achieve the best functional performance. The results expand the understanding of mechanisms for controlling the properties of thermoelectric materials and can be applied in the design of next-generation energy-efficient devices.
