Modular Thermoelectric Generator Based on Controlled Solid-State Reactions According to Italian Patent 102021000017723: Architecture, Safe Chemistries, and Energy Modules for Long-Endurance AUVs
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) are constrained by battery capacity, which typically limits mission duration to days or weeks. Li-ion and LFP batteries suffer from degradation, thermal runaway risk, and frequent recharge requirements.Italian Patent 102021000017723 introduces an innovative concept: an active insulating body integrating thermoelectric modules, batteries, and a control system. In this work, the patent is reinterpreted as a modular thermoelectric generator capable of:• generating continuous energy (Seebeck effect),• stabilizing internal temperature,• continuously recharging a buffer battery,• enabling multi-month or multi-year autonomy,• being integrated into compact, scalable energy modules.
