Abstract: We report a case of severe, reversible hypothyroidism due to iodine deficiency in an 8-month-old infant receiving exclusive total parenteral nutrition (TPN) for short bowel syndrome. Although iodine deficiency is a known problem for recipients of chronic TPN, it is often overlooked. This case highlights the need to screen for iodine deficiency in this vulnerable population and details successful management strategies.
