Abstract: Background. The growing popularity of facial massage, including the Kobido technique, has prompted research into its psychosomatic effects. The aim of this study was to analyze the impact of facial massage on physiological parameters, emotions, and mood in women, and to compare its effects with those of back massage.Material and methods. The study included 28 women aged 21–66 years (38.93 12.65), who were clients of a massage salon. The participants underwent two treatments: facial and back massage. The research project was conducted using a proprietary questionnaire consisting of three sections. The assessment of physiological parameters was based on measurements of blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen saturation before the massage, in the first minute after the massage, and 15 minutes later. The Mood and Six Emotions Measurement Scale was used to assess subjective psychosomatic sensations associated with the massage. Results. It was demonstrated that facial massage induces significant physiological and psychological effects. The greatest effect was observed in the reduction of heart rate following facial massage, compared to back massage. The decrease following facial massage was statistically significant (p = 0.000) and remained significant even after 15 minutes (p = 0.000) . Back massage also significantly lowered heart rate, although this effect was slightly less pronounced than with facial massage. No significant changes in blood pressure were observed after either massage. Both treatments improved mood. The effects did not differ between age groups, but women in the older age group tended to exhibit stronger physiological responses.Conclusions. A single Kobido-style facial massage has a positive effect on the well-being and physiological parameters of women of various ages. In physiotherapy and wellness, it can be used for the prevention of psychophysical health issues, not only as an anti-aging treatment.
