Fittingness and Consequentialism
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: ABSTRACT Some beliefs, positive and negative attitudes, and desires fit their objects. Others do not. This paper considers whether consequentialist ethics can plausibly be reconciled with the fittingness of beliefs, positive and negative attitudes, and desires. Then the paper turns to what consequentialist ethics can consistently say about the fittingness of acts.
