Periodontitis and Incident Diabetes Mellitus: A Nationwide Cohort Study From Korea
Year: 2026
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: This nationwide cohort study demonstrates that treated periodontitis was independently associated with a 33% increased risk of incident diabetes. Using a treatment-based exposure and a washout design, findings emphasize the importance of periodontal care in metabolic disease prevention.
