Noun-noun coordination in English and functional structure in the nominal domain
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: I argue that, when two bare nouns are coordinated in English, the resultant coordinate structure does not intrinsically project a number feature. I also argue that this fact is more straightforwardly accounted for under a DP-style analysis than under an NP analysis. My conclusions depend on the assumption that agreement marking in English is a purely formal phenomenon.
