Abstract: Generative artificial intelligence poses a significant challenge to traditional notions of authorship. This article examines some of those issues through the lens of copyright law. By looking at the major input and output challenges issues raised against AI by copyright, we evaluate the ways in which generative AI is forcing authors to reassess how they create, and what it means to be an author. We examine some of the many copyright lawsuits pending against generative AI providers, as well as policy and legislative proposal in the United States and abroad.
