Silicon and Low Pt Loading Improves Redox Dynamics and Regenerability in PtGa Propane Dehydrogenation Catalysts

Type: article
Abstract: The increasing propene demand has accelerated the development of on-purpose propane dehydrogenation (PDH) technologies. While efficient Pt-Ga based PDH catalysts exist, the origin of the Si-promotional effect and the need of only small amounts of Pt are not fully understood. Herein, we find that, using surface organometallic chemistry, incorporating Si and decreasing the Pt-loading in Si-containing PtGacatalyst supported on alumina improve both stability and regenerability, due to optimal Pt-Ga dynamics as evidenced by in-situ/operando Xray absorption spectroscopy.
