Year: 2026
Type: article
Study design: Case Report
Abstract: A 43-year-old woman presented to the emergency department (ED) with 4 days of progressive rash and lower extremity pain. Two days prior, she had presented a different ED for evaluation of this rash, as well as for 3 days of transient diffuse abdominal pain that preceded the rash. During the first visit, laboratory evaluation revealed an isolated acute kidney injury (AKI), and computed tomography of her abdomen and pelvis demonstrated mesenteric lymphadenopathy. On her second visit, examination revealed palpable nonblanching purpura predominantly involving the lower extremities (Fig 1), buttocks (Fig 2), torso, and upper extremities.
