Autoimmune nodopathy and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis mediated by anti-NF186 antibody: a case report and literature review

Type: article
Study design: Case Report
Abstract: BACKGROUND: Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and autoimmune nodopathy (AN) exhibit specific associations with anti-NF186 antibodies, which may act as circulating factors contributing to the development of both conditions. However, these cases are very rare, and the underlying pathogenesis mechanisms remain unclear. CASE PRESENTATION: Here, we report a 63-year-old male patient presented with concurrent FSGS and AN, tested positive for anti-NF186 antibodies. Following the administration of plasma exchange and corticosteroid therapy, both neuropathy and nephropathy exhibited significant improvement. He has achieved a favorable outcome following a seven-month of corticosteroid treatment. CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights that acute onset quadriparesis with respiratory involvement may be observed in concurrent AN and FSGS mediated by anti-NF186 antibodies, suggesting a close association of these symptoms.
