Long-term evolution of centenarians in Japan
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Since the start of the Family Register in 1872, the number and survival rate of centenarians in Japan have increased steadily. Prior to that period, a declining trend was observed, possibly suggesting a mortality crisis in the first half of the 19th century. Data quality and registration correctness require further examination, but where data is limited, accepting a compromise on the detailed timing of life events should be considered.
