Cold Atmospheric Plasma in Pediatric Dentistry: A Paradigm Shift toward Antibiotic-free Minimally Invasive Care

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Objectives: A revolutionary alternative to antibiotics, cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) provides a potent means of addressing the worldwide problem of antibiotic resistance. Its potential use in pediatric dentistry is yet mainly untapped, which emphasizes the necessity of focused study. Materials and methods: are efficiently eradicated by CAP in a matter of seconds, cutting down on treatment time and easing patient worry. Additionally, CAP strengthens the enamel against microbial attacks by improving fluoride retention. Results: According to this review, CAP may be used in dentistry as a less invasive option to traditional antibiotics because it eases anxiety and does not add to the growing issue of resistance. Conclusion: Despite its positive advantages, there are still several obstacles to overcome, like the requirement for cost-effectiveness, device standardization, and regulatory approval for kid-specific devices. Future research should concentrate more on improving CAP technology, investigating how it might be used with other dental advancements, and evaluating its long-term impacts on oral health results.
