Astrocyte–Neuron Crosstalk in Hypertension: Mechanisms and Therapeutic Significance
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Hypertension is a major global health challenge that poses a serious threat to cardiovascular function. Crosstalk between astrocytes and neurons plays a central role in blood pressure regulation within the central nervous system. As the prevalence of hypertension continues to increase, significant progress has been made in understanding the associated pathological mechanisms involving astrocytes and neurons. Accumulating evidence indicates that astrocytes engage in complex metabolic-immune networks to communicate with neurons, thereby contributing critically to the development and progression of hypertension. This review highlights recent advances in our understanding of the bidirectional regulatory mechanisms between astrocytes and neurons in the context of hypertension.
