Familial clustering of colorectal adenocarcinoma across two generations: A case series from North India
Year: 2026
Type: article
Study design: Case Report
Abstract: Familial clustering of colorectal cancer suggests an underlying hereditary cancer syndrome, most commonly Lynch syndrome. We report a case series from a single family in which nine members across two generations were affected by colorectal carcinoma; five were evaluated and treated at our institute over an 8-year period and constitute the present series. Clinical, radiological, operative, and histopathological data were reviewed. All tumors were histologically confirmed adenocarcinomas, predominantly involving the proximal colon. Curative surgical resection was performed in all patients, with adjuvant chemotherapy administered when indicated. Post-operative recovery was uneventful, and no recurrence was observed on follow-up. This series underscores the importance of recognizing familial aggregation and implementing surveillance strategies in high-risk individuals, particularly in resource-limited settings where genetic testing may not be readily available.
