Abstract: This article places theater and film at the center of social experience in 19th-century Cartagena, analyzing their various aspects from the opening of the Comedy Theater “El Coliseo” in 1775 until its transformation into the Mainero Theater in 1872 and the screening of the first films to arrive in the city in 1897.
