Resonance as a key phenomenon within practices of sensitive reflective notation

Type: article
Abstract: This exposition presents some of my most significant findings within the artistic research project Contingent Agencies (2019–25), conceived and conducted by myself and Nikolaus Gansterer, hosted by the University of Applied Arts Vienna, funded by the PEEK program of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), and presented at the 16th SAR International Conference at Porto. The project aimed to shed light on the ways in which specific agencies condition the emergence of an atmosphere. In this exposition, on the basis of a series of selected “artifacts of notation,” the practice that produced them will be conceptualized as the “sensitive practice of reflective notation,” and “resonance” will be outlined as a key phenomenon in the deployment of this practice. This conceptualization has been realized within my current research project The Sense of Common Self in the framework of How to Live Together in Sound? Towards Sonic Democracy—an artistic research project (2023–27) hosted by the University of the Arts Helsinki and funded by the Kone Foundation. This development has been possible due to my work on a more extensive variety of research practices: “sensitive practices of reflective co-involvement.” keywords: resonance, sensitive cognition, notation, reflection, attention, awareness, diagram
