Analysis of productivity and sustainability in Arabica coffee farming under the modern conditions

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This study analyzes the effects of digital literacy (DL), government policies (GP), and infrastructure (INF) on Arabica coffee productivity in Kerinci Regency which is among the primary producers of Arabica coffee in Jambi Province of Sumatra in Indonesia, with the aim of evaluating the sustainability of Arabica coffee farming in the region and its productivity improvement. The study population consisted of coffee farmers from Kayu Aro, Gunung Tujuh, and Kayu Aro Barat districts in 2024, totaling 2,286 farmers, from which 340 respondents were selected as the research sample. The results show that coffee farm productivity is directly and significantly influenced by DL, GP, and INF, with digital literacy emerging as the most influential factor in enhancing productivity. However, the current level of technological adoption (TA) among farmers has not yet contributed effectively to productivity improvements. The technological dimension is classified as less sustainable and represents the most critical area requiring intervention to enhance overall sustainability. The most sensitive attribute relates to the use of agricultural technology, while the ecological dimension indicates strong farmer commitment to soil and water conservation practices. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening digital capabilities, policy support, and infrastructure development to improve both productivity and sustainability in Arabica coffee farming.
