Reporting and data systems for laparoscopic cholecystectomy with findings of a user adoption survey
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (LC) is the gold standard operation for symptomatic cholelithiasis with high incidence (7.5%) and complication (2%) rates. Pre-/intra-/post-intervention information in the form of multimodal data is recorded in various unstructured formats across different centres. The need to archive and retrieve them across centres motivates the need for the development of standardized Reporting And Data Systems (RADS). This study aims to develop a comprehensive set of multimodality-correlated RADS for LC. The present work has developed a set of RADS, which records pre-operative findings, ultrasonography findings, operating theatre findings, procedure video findings, and post-operative follow-up. Additionally, a Surgeon-specific RADS is also proposed to record the Surgeon's skill. A cohort of 100 Surgeons with varying expertise in LC have reviewed the RADS, with 73% agreeing that the LC-RADS effectively record relevant data and 77% preferring to use them regularly in surgical practice. LC-RADS is a center-agnostic proforma that standardizes data collection in surgical interventions for enhancing the quality of patient care management.
