Abstract: High Resolution Image Download MS PowerPoint Slide The effect of tungsten incorporation into ScN-based multilayers on their microstructure and thermoelectric properties is examined through combined experimental and theoretical approaches. Four ScN/Sc 1− x W x N multilayers were deposited on MgO(001) by DC reactive magnetron sputtering, with the W content tuned by varying the thickness of the Sc 1− x W x N interlayers. Microstructural and morphological analysis confirmed epitaxial growth. Despite the observed gradual degradation of the crystalline quality of the multilayer samples with an increasing concentration of W, thermoelectric measurements demonstrate that the multilayer system exhibits an enhanced Seebeck coefficient as well as reduced thermal conductivity compared to pure ScN. These findings suggest that tungsten incorporation, which promotes n-type electronic behavior in ScN epitaxial multilayers, is a promising strategy for enhancing the thermoelectric efficiency of this compound.
