Contrasting thermoelectric responses in rare-earth nickelate thin films

Abstract: • Thermoelectric effect is studied in thin films of rare-earth perovskite nickelates. • Contrasting low-temperature thermoelectric responses are observed in (La/Nd/Sm)NiO 3 . • Insulating SmNiO 3 films show enhanced phonon-drag thermopower. • Similar metallic diffusion thermopower is observed above 200 K in all films. • Polaron transport and percolation transition explain the thermoelectric anomalies.
