High accuracy and parameter robust multi-vector model predictive control for 10-tube neutral point clamped hybrid active power filter

Type: article
Abstract: Nowadays, three-level hybrid active power filters (TL-HAPFs) for medium power systems still face challenges of high power losses and low reliability due to the large number of components. This article series AC capacitors into three-level 10-tube neutral point clamped (T-NPC) voltage source converters (VSCs) to form multi-level hybrid active power filters to further reduce the components, which is called 10-tube neutral point hybrid active power filter (T-NPC-HAPF). However, the T-NPC structure still suffers from two key limitations: (i) operation performance is heavily influenced by LC-Coupling parameters, (ii) can not theoretically achieve volt-second balance. Both of which can result in significant steady-state errors and poor transient response. To address these issues, a high-precision multi-vector MPC method was proposed for T-NPC-HAPF. First, an ultra-local model of T-NPC-HAPF is established with a simple nonlinear disturbance observer (NDO), which eliminates additional ac capacitor sensors and complex parameters design. Then, the optimal duty cycle MPC(ODC-MPC) is further introduced, with the support of achieving voltage-second balance, better performance can be achieved. Finally, the experiment va effectiveness of the proposed method is experimentally validated under different parameter variations .
