Abstract: As FBS college football reaches a financial tipping point, there is growing concern that competing at the highest level of the sport is going to become an unsustainable endeavor for a large portion of current FBS universities. In response to this concern, lobbying efforts, alternative competition models, and alternative governance structures have explored a future for college football that includes greater financial and competitive equity across the entire sport. To this point, no centralized governance model has taken hold, lobbying efforts have been futile, and scheduling remains under the same conference umbrella it has long existed in. The construction of this model is built upon a variety of factors, including the financial, operational, and legal concerns under a new governance and financial model. By delineating an alternative competitive and governance structure, this study aims to provide administrators, commissioners, university presidents, and coaches with a workable alternative model.
