Comparative Effectiveness of Olmesartan Medoxomil in Monotherapy and Combination Therapy With Other ARB Medications: Literature Review
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Hypertension remains one of the leading health issues; however, the awareness and control remain limited, with approximately 1.4 billion people affected by hypertension, yet only one in five has the condition effectively controlled. Despite the availability of effective treatments, knowledge and awareness remain limited. Angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) are widely used antihypertensive medications because of their efficacy and safety profiles. Among these, Olmesartan Medoxomil has emerged as a prominent option, demonstrating strong efficacy in lowering blood pressure, both as monotherapy and in combination with other antihypertensive agents. This thesis examines the comparative effectiveness of Olmesartan Medoxomil versus other ARBs and evaluates the benefits of monotherapy and combination therapy in the management of hypertension. By analyzing clinical trials, systematic reviews, and pharmacological data, this study assesses the effects on blood pressure, safety profiles, and cardiovascular and renal outcomes. The study aims to improve understanding of the optimal treatment strategies for hypertension. Overall, evidence suggests that Olmesartan Medoxomil provides consistent and sustained blood pressure reduction; furthermore, clinical outcomes are often improved when ARB therapy is combined with other antihypertensive agents. In addition, some newer ARBs have demonstrated greater antihypertensive potency through different study designs, although direct comparison is limited by variation in study design and dosage equivalence.
