This study examines the Egyptian influences reflected in the art and architecture of Al-Hijr (Madâ’in Sâlih), one of the most significant Nabataean centers in northwestern Arabia. The research explores the historical relations between the Egyptian and Nabataean civilizations and highlights the role of trade routes in facilitating the transmission of Egyptian influences, as well as the contribution of Nabataean commercial activity in strengthening these intercultural connections. The findings indicate that Egyptian civilization left discernible marks on various aspects of Nabataean material and symbolic life in Al-Hijr, particularly through borrowed architectural and decorative elements, as well as funerary and ceramic traditions inspired by Egyptian models, while maintaining a distinct local Nabataean identity. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of intercultural interaction in the Arabian Peninsula and provides a foundation for future research on cultural and artistic exchange between neighboring regions.
