Electromyographic Analysis of the Vastus Lateralis Muscle in Healthy Adults Effects of Physical Exercise: a Cross Sectional Study

Year: 2026
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Surface electromyography (sEMG) evaluates neuromuscular activity during muscle contraction. The objective was to analyze the vastus lateralis muscle activation in 38 healthy adults, relating it to physical activity practice. Cross-sectional study, non-probabilistic sample, IPAQ, BMI, and sEMG applied with the Miotec® device. The vastus lateralis, essential in knee stabilization, showed greater activation in the dominant limb and among physically active individuals, without gender interference. These showed higher contraction peaks both in intensity and greater activation at the beginning and end of isometric contraction (p<0.01). Concluded that physical activity positively influences muscle activation, being relevant data for clinical evaluation and prognosis.
