Shell medium sized, solid, slender cylindrical (SL/MD = 2.5–2.6), only last whorl visible. Last whorl elongate, with almost parallel, straight to very weakly convex sides, weakly rounded at base; apex moderately broad (MD/ApD = 1.7–1.8), truncated, weakly oblique (AP = 11–13°) widely and shallowly umbilicate, delimited by low, sharp ridge. Surface glossy with few, extremely fine spirals visible on tangential light in rare specimens.Aperture as long as the shell, very narrow adapically and in mid-section (MD/AW = 8.6–10.3), widening anteriorly (MD/MAW = 2.5–3.0), with moderate expansion rate (ER = 2.7–3.5). Outer lip only slightly extending above apex, straight to very weakly convex below, rounded and somewhat truncated abapically. Columella short, not excavated; columellar callus forming narrow rim with weak, low columellar fold. Narrow umbilical chink. Discussion. Hörnes (1856) and several subsequent authors compared the Paratethyan shells with the Pliocene Mediterranean Cylichna convoluta (Brocchi, 1814), which is a subjective junior synonym of Cylichna cylindracea (Pennant, 1777) (see Landau et al. 2023 for discussion). Paleoenvironment. Cylichna cylindracea lives in inner neritic environments on muddy sands between 20-60 m depth (Gofas et al. 2011). Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (Middle Miocene: Polish-Ukrainian Foreland Basin: Borki Wielkie, Dryszczów (Poland), Shushkivtsi, Tarnoruda, Yaseniv, Zboriv (Ukraine) (Friedberg 1938); Błonie (Poland) (Urbaniak 1974); Vienna Basin: Baden, Bad Vöslau, Steinebrunn (Austria) (Hörnes 1856); Pannonian Basin: Mátraverebély (Hungary) (Strausz 1966); Bükk Mountains: Borsodbóta (Hungary) (Csepreghy-Meznerics 1972). Northeastern Atlantic. Tortonian (Late Miocene): southern Portugal (Landau et al. 2023). Pliocene to present-day: North Sea, northeastern Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea (see Landau et al. 2023: 393 for details).
