”Ett bollplank som sparar tid” : Studenters acceptans och användning av generativ AI ihögre utbildning
Year: 2025
Type: dissertation
Abstract: Generative AI has rapidly become a common study tool, yethigher education still faces uncertainty regardingappropriate integration and what challenges this entail. Thisstudy aims to deepen the understanding of students’acceptance and use of generative AI, focusing on factors thatact as benefits or challenges of adoption in practice. Thestudy applies the UTAUT framework, extended with trustand privacy considerations. Empirical material was collectedthrough semi-structured interviews with ten universitystudents from different disciplines and analyzed usingthematic analysis. The findings indicate that studentsprimarily value generative AI for saving time and forproviding support when they get stuck, but thathallucinations and difficulties in obtaining accurate, taskspecific answers restrict use. Social influence emerges asambiguous, whereas facilitating conditions are more salient:lack of institutional training and unclear guidelines arelinked to concerns about being accused of cheating, which inturn affects actual use. Privacy concerns influence whatinformation students are willing to share with AI services. Two additional empirical findings are identified beyondUTAUT: perceived energy consumption and environmentalimpact, and worries that reliance on AI may reduce learningby “outsourcing” thinking. The study highlights the need forclear, consistent university-level guidelines and supportstructures to enable responsible use of generative AI.
