A PFAS biomonitoring intervention to reduce exposure risk in rural US residents

Year: 2026
Type: dataset
Abstract: This study evaluated an enhanced PFAS biomonitoring report-back intervention among rural residents and healthcare providers (HCPs). Participants completed PFAS blood testing, environmental health literacy (EHL) surveys, and exposure-related behavior assessments. Qualitative interviews were conducted with rural residents and HCPs to explore motivations for PFAS testing, perceptions of test results and report-back materials, challenges to exposure reduction, and educational needs. The intervention included personalized PFAS exposure reduction recommendations, PFAS source information, health monitoring guidance based on National Academies recommendations, and educational resources for participants and HCPs. Data include demographic characteristics, PFAS blood test results, EHL measures (knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors), readiness to reduce exposure, self-efficacy, exposure-related behaviors, household dust removal practices, and qualitative interview responses.
