Cation Distribution in Li 2 CaSiO 4 :Gd, Pr, Na Uncovered Through Anomalous Diffraction
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Stannite‐type Li 2 CaSiO 4 co‐doped with Gd 3+ and Pr 3+ shows a significant increase in up‐conversion efficiency as opposed to purely Pr 3+ doped materials, but the structural reasons for this effect are not well understood. With two possible cation positions, the doped rare earth ions may be shared on one crystallographic site, or distributed over different ones. Herein, we use synchrotron radiation for a combination of high‐resolution X‐ray diffraction and Multiple Edge Anomalous Diffraction (MEAD) to shine a light on the cation distribution in these materials and simultaneously explore the low concentration limit of the MEAD method.
