Hyaluronate-coated novasomes as a nanoplatform for targeted delivery of Beta vulgaris subsp. cicla extract: formulation, characterization, and phytochemical profiling

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Arial parts extracts of Beta vulgaris subsp. Cicla (BV) along with their novasomes coated with hyaluronate formulations (BV1 and BV2) were investigated for their antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 and Candida albicans ATCC 10231 and their scavenging potential against (DPPH) radical. The selected formulation BV1 was tested for encapsulation efficiency, particle size zeta potential, FTIR and TEM., Fifteen chromatographic peaks were identified by GC/MS analysis represented (89.64%) from BV dichloromethane fraction, the most abundant compound was oleic acid (30.52%), followed by Palmitic acid (21.92%)and Stearic acid (10.50%) triterpenes and sterol also identified. LC/MS/MS of total ethanol extract results the identification of 33 compounds including flavonoids, phenolic acids and their derivatives which represented the major compounds also coumarin, fatty acid and amino acid were identified. In addition to isolation of four compounds Oleanolic acid and campsterol from dichloromethane fraction while isovitexin and Apigenin-O- hexoside from ethanol extract. The crude extract showed antimicrobial activity against C.albicans only whilenovasomes formulationsBV1 was active against both bacteria and yeast. As for BV2, it was active against bacteria only. Regarding antioxidant activity, crude extract together with both formulas showed ability to scavenge DPPH free radical.
